This guide is specifically for MSI Claw 8 AI+ A2VM. Do not assume identical charging limits for Claw A1M, Claw A8, Claw 7 AI+ or Claw 8 EX AI+ without checking the documentation for that exact model.
MSI documents two Thunderbolt 4 ports on Claw 8 AI+. For the handheld itself, its official product page lists USB Power Delivery support at 45 W (20 V / 2.25 A) and up to 65 W (20 V / 3.25 A) while the system is running or sleeping.
A dock has its own power needs. MSI's Nest Docking Station accepts up to 100 W through its USB-C PD input, but MSI separately states that the Claw's maximum charging speed is 65 W. The extra adapter capacity is therefore not a claim that the handheld charges at 100 W. It gives the dock room to supply the handheld while also operating its display, network and USB connections. MSI recommends an additional 100 W charger when all dock functions are expected to work simultaneously.
A charger marked 100 W does not prove that the handheld receives or consumes 100 W. The negotiated charging level depends on the charger, cable, dock, device state and battery condition. MSI also warns that system performance may adapt to the available charging current and that charging speed varies with system and battery status.
If the battery still drains during a docked session, verify the complete path: charger, cable, dock PD input, host connection and Windows charging state. Do not immediately change game graphics settings; first establish whether the power connection is behaving as expected.
Docking does not automatically increase frame rate. An external display can also change output resolution, which may increase GPU load. When recording a benchmark, document:
Changing the power source and display resolution at the same time makes before-and-after results difficult to compare.
This is a setup guide, not a tested graphics preset or Atlas benchmark. It makes no FPS, temperature or battery-runtime promise.
