HandheldAtlas guide
Xbox mode gives a supported Windows handheld a controller-first launcher without replacing Windows. This setup guide is relevant to Windows installations on ROG Ally, Legion Go and MSI Claw families; it is not a SteamOS procedure or a promise that every hardware/software combination is supported.
Microsoft requires Windows 11 version 24H2 or later and a supported market. On a gaming handheld, open Settings > Gaming > Xbox mode and choose an installed, supported home app. Choosing None disables the feature.
Use Game Bar settings, Task View or Win + F11 to enter. To return to the desktop, use Game Bar, Task View or the same keyboard shortcut. Swiping up from the bottom opens Task View on touch devices.
The optional startup setting launches Xbox mode after sign-in and limits background processes. Returning after a desktop session may offer a restart to restore those optimizations; you can also continue without restarting.
Xbox mode displays one window at a time. If an installer or launcher becomes awkward, return to the desktop instead of assuming the application has crashed.
ASUS documents an Xbox mode button near the upper-right corner of the Xbox app. Its June 25, 2026 walkthrough also illustrates the Game Bar route. These are interface instructions, not evidence of a measured FPS increase on your handheld.
No FPS, battery-life or memory-saving figure is prescribed here. This is a documented setup procedure, not an Atlas hardware test or a game preset.
Documentation checked September 22, 2026. Availability and interface labels can change with Windows and app updates.
