This guide applies to the Windows Lenovo Legion Go Gen 2 family covered by Lenovo's combined manual: Legion Go 8ASP2 and Legion Go 8AHP2. These machine types can differ in processor and DisplayPort support, so record the exact one before sharing results.
Legion Go Gen 2 exposes both a thermal mode and a Windows OS power mode. They are related to performance, but they are not the same setting.
Thermal mode controls the console's performance, power-consumption and fan-speed limits. Lenovo provides four choices:
Change thermal mode in Legion Space under Performance, or press Legion L + Y to cycle through modes.
Windows OS power mode is a separate policy. Open Settings → System → Power & battery, or use the Performance section in Legion Space. Lenovo lists Best performance, Balanced and Best power efficiency. Best performance is intended for plugged-in use; Best power efficiency is intended for battery use. Energy saver can make this control unavailable.
Lenovo's current Gen 2 manual does not assign a fixed wattage to Performance, Balance or Quiet in its thermal-mode table. Do not copy wattage labels from the original Legion Go or Legion Go S onto Gen 2, and do not turn a selected mode into an assumed sustained TDP.
A mode label also does not prove average FPS, battery life, temperature or fan noise. Those require a measured test on the exact device.
The display can run at 60 Hz or 144 Hz. Lenovo exposes refresh-rate control in Windows under Settings → System → Display → Advanced display and in the Display section of Legion Space. Refresh rate is not the same as a frame cap, so record both when one is used.
For demanding games while plugged in, Lenovo recommends Performance thermal mode and Best performance OS mode. For battery play, start with Balance thermal mode and Balanced OS mode, then lower settings only when the game remains comfortable to play. Quiet and Best power efficiency are useful when noise or runtime matters more than peak performance.
These are operating starting points, not a universal game preset. A tested HandheldAtlas preset still needs the exact game, resolution, graphics settings, upscaling, frame-generation state and performance evidence.
If expected controls are missing, Lenovo's official path is Legion Space → SETTINGS → Disks and Drivers → Check for Updates. Install only the packages offered for the exact machine type and restart when requested.
