HandheldAtlas guide
Missing textures or crashes can justify checking a Steam installation before attempting a larger repair. Valve documents file verification for these symptoms. On a handheld, start with one affected game so the result is easy to interpret.
Restart the handheld, then open Steam. From the game's Library page, use the gear menu and select Properties. Open Installed Files and choose Verify integrity of game files. In the desktop client, right-clicking the Library entry also opens Properties.
Allow several minutes for the check. Valve advises against verifying several games simultaneously or running other intensive tasks, such as a virus scan, alongside it. Scheduling one check at a time keeps the troubleshooting process clear.
Valve notes that some local configuration files can fail verification because they should not be replaced. A small failure count alone does not establish that the installation remains broken.
Launch the game again and revisit the same location or action that failed. Record whether the original symptom still occurs, along with the exact handheld model, game version and error message. This is an editorial troubleshooting recommendation, not a measured performance test.
If the symptom remains, consult that game's official support with those details instead of repeating verification indefinitely. Keep installation troubleshooting separate from a Steam Cloud save conflict; use our Steam Cloud guide before choosing between conflicting saves.
