ROCKFISH Games released the final planned technical update for EVERSPACE 2 on September 1, 2026. The free cross-platform update brings the game to Steam Deck Verified status and carries lessons from the Nintendo Switch 2 port back to PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
The developer says handheld-specific interface work removed the last barrier to Valve's Verified rating. In practical terms, the patch increases the font size of many UI elements to improve readability on Steam Deck.
The update's directly documented Steam Deck changes are focused on usability rather than a new performance mode:
That distinction matters. Valve's Verified badge indicates that the game meets the Steam Deck compatibility program's requirements, but it is not a published performance benchmark. ROCKFISH did not provide controlled average FPS, 1% low, frametime, TDP, power-draw or battery-life results for the Deck in this announcement.
Players should therefore treat the update as evidence of improved out-of-box compatibility and legibility, not proof of a particular frame-rate target at a specific graphics preset.
The Windows versions distributed through Steam, GOG and the Microsoft Store also received newer upscaling plugins:
ROCKFISH notes that GPUs unsupported by FSR 4.1.1 may fall back to FSR 3.1.5. The presence of newer plugins does not by itself establish a measurable performance or image-quality gain on every device; those results still require repeatable testing with the exact handheld, resolution, preset and test scene documented.
The patch also includes a collection of mission, interface and stability fixes. Among the broader technical changes, Windows and macOS builds should now recognize controllers connected after the first detected device.
Other fixes address a rare blocker in the Twin Stations side mission, a Wrath of the Ancients crash when entering certain high-risk areas, incorrect item labels and several mission-specific edge cases.
ROCKFISH additionally says Xbox Series S performance has improved, although the announcement does not provide reproducible measurements. HandheldAtlas is therefore not assigning an FPS uplift to that platform.
ROCKFISH describes this release as the conclusion of an eight-year development journey for EVERSPACE 2. Barring hotfixes, it is expected to be the game's final update while the studio focuses on its next project in the EVERSPACE universe.
That makes the Steam Deck rating especially relevant for future buyers: the game's compatibility status now reflects the intended final technical baseline rather than an interim patch. Individual performance results can still vary with SteamOS, Proton, game updates and user settings, so verified presets should continue to record their test date and evidence.
Steam Deck owners gain a clearer interface and an official Verified rating without needing to install a beta branch. Windows handheld users also receive the updated DLSS, FSR and XeSS plugins, but choosing an upscaler should remain an evidence-led decision rather than an assumption based on version numbers.
For a trustworthy handheld preset, document the exact device, resolution, frame cap, TDP, graphics settings, upscaler version and repeatable test scene. Leave averages, lows and battery life blank unless they were actually measured.
