Valve moved SteamOS 3.9 to stable on October 23, 2026, releasing version 3.9.5 to all users. This is a separate rollout from the Steam client beta described below.
Valve reports lower idle power use on Steam Deck when audio is inactive, fixes for frame limits on some external displays, and a working Disable Frame Limiter toggle with VRR. Legion Go 2 gets preliminary brightness control and a fix for a Forza Horizon 6 launch crash. Some ASUS devices also receive a workaround for excessive fan speed after waking.
These changes matter for docked play and everyday usability; they are not measured FPS or battery-life results. Steam Deck hibernation remains unavailable because of a driver issue.
The October 22 Steam client beta re-enables Remote Play HDR on Steam Deck OLED. Its advanced client setting offers Automatic, On and Off, giving streamers a direct HDR control. Do not assume installing stable SteamOS alone also installs this client-beta feature.
