What it does
A cap does not increase maximum performance, but it can reduce power draw and prevent the device from oscillating between unstable frame times.
Games may also call it: FPS Limit, Frame Cap, Maximum FPS
Decision guide
Lower it when
Lower the cap when the device cannot hold a higher target consistently or battery life matters more than peak FPS.
Keep it high when
Raise it when the system has real headroom and the display can show the extra frames.
Handheld advice
A stable 40 FPS target can feel better than an unstable 45–60 FPS range.
Restart
Usually not required
Some games still apply changes only after reloading a scene or restarting.
Do not overread the meter
The best cap depends on refresh rate, VRR range and input-latency priorities.
