Latency
High
What it does
V-Sync does not make the GPU render faster. It can improve presentation but may add latency or create frame-rate steps when performance falls below refresh.
Games may also call it: Vertical Sync
Decision guide
Lower it when
Disable it when variable refresh is available and latency matters more than tearing protection.
Keep it high when
Keep it when tearing is distracting and the frame rate can stay near the chosen cap.
Handheld advice
On VRR handhelds, use the device’s recommended VRR and cap strategy instead of blindly forcing every sync option on.
Restart
Usually not required
Some games still apply changes only after reloading a scene or restarting.
Do not overread the meter
Driver, game and display sync settings can interact.
