ROG Ally battery life changes sharply with operating mode, screen settings, connected accessories, game load, and background activity. Before replacing hardware or changing several settings at once, use this checklist to identify which part of the system is responsible.
Run the same workload twice. A single short session is easily distorted by a Windows update, shader compilation, installation, or download running in the background.
Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Battery usage. Select the relevant time period and look for applications consuming power when you were not actively using them. Close or uninstall an unnecessary application, or restrict its background activity when Windows exposes that option.
Then open Task Manager, sort Processes by CPU, and check GPU, disk, and network activity. Close a normal application from its own interface first. ASUS warns against force-ending Windows system processes because that can disrupt system operation.
These are diagnostic controls, not a universal gaming preset. Change one variable at a time and repeat the same workload so you can see which adjustment actually matters.
Open MyASUS > System Diagnosis > Battery problems, connect power when prompted, and run Checkup. If MyASUS reports a battery error, ASUS recommends contacting support for service or replacement. If the diagnostic is not available on your device, continue with the software checks rather than assuming the battery has failed.
ASUS recommends comparing battery behavior in Windows Safe Mode when unexplained drain continues. A large difference between normal Windows and Safe Mode points toward an application, service, or driver rather than the battery alone.
Before considering a Windows reset, back up personal files. A reset is a late troubleshooting step, not the starting point. If MyASUS reports poor battery health, the device shuts down unexpectedly, the battery swells, or runtime remains abnormal after repeatable tests, stop experimenting and contact ASUS support.
This is a troubleshooting workflow, not a battery benchmark or tested game preset. It does not promise a specific runtime, FPS gain, temperature, or ideal TDP. Those results depend on the exact Ally model, battery condition, software, game, and test method.
